BACKGROUND: Bipolar disorder-I (BD-I) is a complex illness, and multiple genes and environmental factors determine its pathogenesis. Several studies have ascertained that BD-I and inflammation are linked through shared genetic polymorphisms and gene expression, as well as altered cytokine levels.
