A serine-threonine protein kinase, WNK4, reduces Na⁺ reabsorption and K⁺ secretion in the distal convoluted tubule by reducing trafficking of the thiazide-sensitive Na-Cl cotransporter to and enhancing renal outer medullary potassium channel retrieval from the apical membrane.
