Epithelial Na(+) absorption is regulated by Nedd4-2, an E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase that reduces expression of the epithelial Na(+) channel ENaC at the cell surface. Defects in this regulation cause Liddle syndrome, an inherited form of hypertension.
