OBJECTIVE: Thiopurine drugs are commonly used in pediatric patients for the treatment of acute leukemia, organ transplantation and inflammatory diseases. They are catabolized by the cytosolic thiopurine methyltransferase (TPMT), which is subject to a genetic polymorphism.
