Previous segregation analyses of pedigrees from areas of China where esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) rates are extraordinarily high suggested a Mendelian mode of transmission. We initiated a search for a major ESCC gene by conducting a genome-wide scan in ESCC tumors.
