Staphylokinase (Sak), a 16-kDa protein secreted by Staphylococcus aureus, induces fibrin-specific thrombolysis in patients with thrombotic disorders. However, Sak also elicits high titers of neutralizing Abs that persist for several months and preclude its repeated use in humans.
