The apoE gene polymorphism was examined in 100 adults with Down syndrome (with and without dementia) compared to 346 control subjects without mental retardation. Meta-analysis of available data (480 subjects) revealed that apolipoprotein E genotype distribution for people with Down syndrome was similar to that of the nonretarded population.
