In eukaryotic cells, DNA polymerase beta (polbeta) carries out base-excision repair (BER) required for DNA maintenance, replication, recombination, and drug resistance. A specific deletion in one allele in the coding sequence of the polbeta gene occurs in colorectal and breast carcinomas.
