The polymerase chain reaction and HaeIII enzymatic digestion were used to study the seventh exon of the p53 gene in 29 primary and recurrent hepatomas in paraffin-embedded samples from 11 patients. The mutation rate of the p53 gene and its genotypes in samples of primary and recurrent tumours and multiple nodules were investigated.
