INTRODUCTION: Amyloid β (Aβ) accumulates in the extracellular space as diffuse and neuritic plaques in Alzheimer's disease (AD). Aβ also deposits on the walls of arterioles as cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA) in most cases of AD and sometimes independently of AD.
