Dynamin is a 100 kDa GTPase that organizes into helical assemblies at the base of nascent clathrin-coated vesicles. Formation of these oligomers stimulates the intrinsic GTPase activity of dynamin, which is necessary for efficient membrane fission during endocytosis.
