Histochemistry is a valuable tool in the analysis of altered hepatic foci. These lesions contain alterations in the activities of certain enzymes, including gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase (GGT), placental glutathione-S-transferase (PGST), glucose-6-phosphatase (G6Pase), and ATPase, or in certain cellular functions, such as the ability to store iron.
