Insulin-degrading enzyme (IDE) is a protease that degrades insulin and the beta-amyloid (Abeta) peptide implicated in Alzheimer's disease (AD). Hence, factors that influence IDE expression or IDE activity toward Abeta are potentially relevant to the etiology of AD.
