MITF is a transcription factor encoded by the mi locus. MITF encoded by mi and Mi(or) mutant alleles (mi-MITF and Mi(or)-MITF, respectively) possessed an inhibitory effect, whereas the tg, mi(ew) and mi(ce) were null mutants.
