The Rex protein of human T-cell leukemia virus (HTLV) acts posttranscriptionally to induce the cytoplasmic expression of the unspliced and incompletely spliced viral RNAs encoding the viral structural and enzymatic proteins and is therefore essential for efficient viral replication.
