PURPOSE: The inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), Crohn's disease (CD), and ulcerative colitis (UC) are chronic intestinal disorder of unknown etiology. Genetic factors play an important role in the pathogenesis of these diseases, but with a complex pattern of inheritance.
