The Saccharomyces cerevisiae RAD30 gene encodes DNA polymerase eta. Humans possess two Rad30 homologs. One (RAD30A/POLH) has previously been characterized and shown to be defective in humans with the Xeroderma pigmentosum variant phenotype.
