<h4>ABSTRACT</h4> In Barrett’s oesophagus (BO), the precursor of oesophageal adenocarcinoma, the adult stratified squamous epithelium is replaced by a simple columnar phenotype. This has been considered metaplasia; the inappropriate conversion from one adult cell-type to another.
