Asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA) is an endogenous inhibitor of nitric oxide (NO) synthesis and elevated plasma levels associate with poor cardiovascular and renal outcomes. The dimethylarginine dimethylaminohydrolase enzymes (DDAHs; 1 and 2) metabolise ADMA.
