Bacterial and eukaryotic nuclear RNA polymerases (RNAPs) cap RNA with the oxidized and reduced forms of the metabolic effector nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, NAD + and NADH, using NAD + and NADH as non-canonical initiating nucleotides for transcription initiation.
