Heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT), a severe complication of heparin treatment, can be associated with new thrombotic complications. HIT antibodies activate platelets via the platelet Fcgamma-receptor (FcgammaRIIa), which carries a functionally relevant polymorphism (FcgammaRIIa-R-H131).
