Mutations arising in vivo in the hypoxanthine-guanine phosphoribosyltransferase (HPRT) gene of T-lymphocytes provide a measure of mutation induction in human somatic cells. Studies of measured background HPRT mutant frequency (MF) values show wide inter-individual variation.
