A Bacillus subtilis mutant that partially relieves carbon catabolite repression (CCR) of the hut operon was isolated by transposon mutagenesis. Characterization of this mutant revealed that the transposon had inserted into the gene, mfd, that encodes transcription-repair coupling factor.
