Abstract excerpt
We report evidence for a strong selection event directing the outgrowth of autoreactive B cells in spontaneous murine lupus. The event occurred shortly following the induction of the somatic hypermutation process. This conclusion is derived from extensive sequence analyses of VH and VL loci expressed by hybridomas representing two large histone-specific clones (lineages) from an autoimmune (NZB x SWR)F1 mouse.
