The adenovirus type 5 (Ad5) 55-kDa E1B oncoprotein has been shown to form complexes with the p53 tumor suppressor protein. These complexes are thought to interfere with normal p53 activity and may be responsible for the paucity of p53 mutations in cells transformed by these viruses.
