RATIONALE: Lung tumors arise from the unrestrained malignant growth of pulmonary epithelial cells. Lung cancer cases include both small and non-small cell lung cancers, with lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) accounting for roughly half of all non-small cell lung cancer cases.
