Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are the most common human sarcoma and are initiated by activating mutations in the KIT or PDGFRA receptor tyrosine kinases. Chromosome 22q deletions are well-recognized frequent abnormalities in GISTs, occurring in ∼50% of GISTs.
