The ε4 allele of the apolipoprotein E (APOE) gene common polymorphism is the strongest genetic risk factor for Alzheimer's disease (AD). Human APOE gene is located on chromosome 19q13.1, a region linked to AD that also includes the LSR gene, which encodes the lipolysis-stimulated lipoprotein receptor (LSR).
