Homologous recombination (HR) repair of programmed meiotic double-strand breaks (DSBs) requires endonucleolytic clipping of Rec12(Spo11)-oligonucleotides from 5' DNA ends followed by resection to generate invasive 3' single-stranded DNA tails.
