Vertebrate somitogenesis is regulated by a segmentation clock. Clock-linked genes exhibit cyclic expression, with a periodicity matching the rate of somite production. In mice, lunatic fringe (Lfng) expression oscillates, and LFNG protein contributes to periodic repression of Notch signaling.
