Tryptophan hydroxylase-2 (Tph2) is the rate limiting enzyme of serotonin synthesis in the brain. The functional (C1473G) polymorphism in the mouse Tph2 gene affecting the enzymatic activity was suspected to be involved in behavioral actions of ethanol (EtOH).
