Synapse formation is tightly associated with neuronal excitability. We found striking synaptic overgrowth caused by Drosophila K(+)-channel mutations of the seizure and slowpoke genes, encoding Erg and Ca(2+)-activated large-conductance (BK) channels, respectively.
