Two near isogenic strains of Salmonella typhimurium HWSH, stably mutated in either the aroA gene affecting the biosynthesis of aromatic compounds, or the purA gene affecting the biosynthesis of purines, were administered intravenously as live attenuated vaccines to BALB/c mice.
