Cytosolic phospholipase A(2)alpha (cPLA(2)alpha) is one of the key enzymes in lipid mediator generation. It preferentially hydrolyzes arachidonoyl-phospholipid in response to cellular stimuli, liberating arachidonic acid, the shared precursor of PGs and leukotrienes.
