We previously identified mutant alleles of the lanosterol synthase (Lss) and farnesyl diphosphate farnesyl transferase 1 (Fdft1) genes, which function in the cholesterol biosynthesis pathway, as determinants for hereditary cataracts in the SCR rat strain.
