PURPOSE: We investigated whether the mutant methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) increases risk for oral cancer. The common germ-line mutation C677T in the MTHFR gene significantly diminishes specific activity of the enzyme, which is responsible for the circulating form of folate.
