Extracellular pH regulates glycine receptors through an unknown mechanism. Here we demonstrate that acidic pH remarkably inhibited glycine-activated whole-cell currents in recombinant glycine alpha1 and alpha1beta receptors transiently expressed in human embryonic kidney 293 cells.
