To clarify the incidence, timing and pathogenetic significance of p53 gene alterations in the progression of small-cell lung carcinoma (SCLC), 17 primary tumors, 13 metastases and nine cell lines from 27 patients were analysed by a polymerase chain reaction-single-strand conformation polymorphism (PCR-SSCP) analysis.
