Amyloid beta-peptide (Abeta) deposition in brain is important in the development of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Neprilysin (NEP) appears to be the major Abeta degrading enzyme in vivo and reduced mRNA levels of NEP correlates with increased plaque density.
