Ubiquitin-mediated proteolysis of securin and mitotic cyclins is essential for exit from mitosis. The final step in ubiquitination of these and other proteins is catalysed by the anaphase-promoting complex (APC), a multi-subunit ubiquitin-protein ligase (E3).
