The RNA-dependent protein kinase (PKR) is an interferon-induced, RNA-activated enzyme that phosphorylates the alpha-subunit of eukaryotic initiation factor 2 (eIF2alpha), inhibiting the function of the eIF2 complex and continued initiation of translation.
