BACKGROUND: The enzymatic mutation detection (EMD) assay uses the bacteriophage resolvase T4 endonuclease VII, which cleaves preformed heteroduplex molecules at mismatch sites, forming two shorter fragments that can be resolved by gel electrophoresis.
