APOBEC3A catalyzes cytosine-to-uracil deamination in single-stranded DNA and RNA. Physiologically, APOBEC3A functions in innate immunity and aberrant deamination is associated with cytosine mutations in enzymatically preferred YTCW substrate motifs in multiple cancers.
