<h4>SUMMARY</h4> Ubiquitin-related proteins of the SUMO family are reversibly attached to thousands of proteins in eukaryotic cells. Many SUMO substrates, effectors and enzymes carry short motifs (SIMs) that mediate low affinity interactions with SUMO proteins.
