<h4>BACKGROUND</h4> During spermiogenesis, histones are exchanged by protamines ( PRMs ) in spermatids, which results in DNA hypercondensation and protection. Rodents and primates express two PRMs ( PRM1 and PRM2 ) in a species-specific ratio.
