Bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD), a chronic lung disease in premature infants, results from mechanical ventilation and hyperoxia amongst other factors. We and others have shown that neonatal hyperoxia, known to lead to a BPD-like phenotype in rodent models, causes lung cellular senescence.
