Frontotemporal dementia (FTD) and Alzheimer’s disease are the most common forms of early-onset dementia. Dominantly inherited mutations in MAPT , the microtubule-associated protein tau gene, cause FTD and parkinsonism linked to chromosome 17 (FTDP-17).
