Acetaldehyde – alcohol dehydrogenase (AdhE) enzymes are a key metabolic enzyme in bacterial physiology and pathogenicity. They convert acetyl-CoA to ethanol via an acetaldehyde intermediate during ethanol fermentation in anaerobic environment.
