Cardiac gene expressions of collagen and contractile proteins were examined in rats treated with a nitric oxide (NO) synthase inhibitor, NG-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME), for 3 weeks. The rats became hypertensive, which caused left ventricular hypertrophy.
