Disrupting disulfide loops in the human chorionic gonadotropin beta subunit (CGbeta) inhibits combination with the alpha subunit. Because the bioactivity requires a heterodimer, studies on the role of disulfide bonds on receptor binding/signal transduction have previously been precluded.
